I have a voltmeter, but sometimes I'm upstairs and it is downstairs, so I will have to try this way.

Thats a neat battery trick, I wanna try it. To use a voltmeter correctly u really need to load down the battery with maybe a 100 ohm resistor or so.

Another trick is spinning an egg on its end, hard boiled will spin, raw eggs won't... probably due to gyro effect.

Another test for eggs is just to drop them. It's really easy to tell then.
