Super Cold Science Experiments For The Kids

They were talking about these on NPR this morning.
One was to leave a banana out in 40 below temps and then use it as a hammer.
Another was to throw a pot of boiling water in the same temps and watch what happens.
Any others you can think of?

I always wanted to try the Jack London one where you spit at -70 below and it freezes before it hits the ground but it never got cold enough to try.

I really don't understand NPR suggesting that kids go out in -40 degree weather to do anything.
