Consumer Scam Alert for IREA Customers

Please be aware of a consumer scam affecting IREA customers. Customers have been receiving phone calls from a person identifying himself as a representative from IREA. The caller then states that their electric account is delinquent and if they don’t make immediate payment, their power will be disconnected. Please know that disconnect notices are sent by IREA in two ways: by mail and by AUTOMATED courtesy call. The automated phone message will state that the call is from IREA and the amount on the disconnect notice needs to be paid by the disconnect notice due date. IREA WILL NEVER DEMAND PAYMENT FROM A CUSTOMER IMMEDIATELY. Please keep yourself and your money safe - don't give your money away to requests made over the phone from people you do not know or can't identify.
