Northern Lights Tonight? Denver Post

Because of a massive solar flare that has delayed a NASA launch, Colorado may get to see Aurora Borealis tonight. Midnight seems to be the best time to look.
I got to see them in Alaska years ago, and they were pretty neat.

I have seen them in N. WI many times before. I saw them once from Bailey about 10 years ago.

I too have seen them in northern WI. We were camping in a County Park in the middle of town and the park ranger came by to let us know. What a treat.

Here is a link that will show you the current strength of the storm, and the bands where the lights may be seen.

Use the current Geomagnetic Activity level (Kp number) and then check the map below. Currently there needs to be a Geomagnetic Activity level (Kp number) of 9 for this to just be visible in Colorado.

But the website updates the KP number every two minutes (you have to refresh the page) and the storm can change intensity during the course of the evening (that's the simple version)

You can also see the possible viewing area at this link...

This is a NOAA test program so it's accuracy is not assured.

You have to refresh the page to see the possible progression of the aurora.
