"NEWSER) – Administrators at Wellesley College apparently thought it would be a good idea to install a sculpture of an extremely realistic guy in his underwear, sleepwalking in a zombie-like pose near the center of campus. But the work of art isn't exactly being applauded by students at the all-female Massachusetts college, the Boston Globe reports."...
Ha! I saw that too, and had the same reaction. :LMAO:
My parents were both graphic artists so I grew up with various art magazines around the house. Once in the '60s during the day of "experiential art," I came upon a photograph of this example:
You lay nude (or nearly so) on an electrified mat.
At your hand is a bowl of water.
You could theoretically put your hand into the bowl, and electrocute yourself.
Being in this position is The Art.
I was about 15 and remember thinking: HUH??!~ this is ART?!!
Today wasn't the first time I didn't get it, I've been Not Getting It just about my whole life. :LMAO: At least this guy is a darned good sculpture (even if he does look a bit deranged).

Sometimes the "art installation" requires a back story from the artist:
This is the work named “What You see Might Not Be Real” and displayed in a latest art exhibition in a Beijing art gallery. Chinese artist Chen Wenling made it to dig at the global financial crisis. The strong and farting bull represents Wall Street (in Chinese slang, to fart mean to bluff or lie). And the man being shoved into the wall is Bernard Madoff who was sentenced to 150 years in prison because of Ponzi schemer.
I have to admit that I enjoyed photos of the sculpture but without the back story it's just some guy getting pinned to a wall by a giant farting bull. The practical side of me wonders what anyone would do with this monstrosity, other than leave it in an art gallery.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus
One thing's for sure: if you didn't already know he was artificial and saw him under the moonlight while driving by, he would be pretty scary! and to a hitchhiker, Bundy pulling up in the VW would probably seem like a good idea.
The bronze "What You See..." is striking, a 3D Chinese pictograph.
Of course, nothing competes with our very own demented blue stallion, but that's another thread. :LMAO:

While I stand by my heading I do recall reading something that seems to make sense to me. If a work of art requires the artist to explain it in order to be appreciated, it is bad art.
So simple, so very simple that even Dobie Gillis appreciated it.
I think the administrators exercised EXTREMELY poor judgement and I question their stupid
decision.....in fact, I would have DEMANDED that it be removed...it is NOT Halloween.
