Can anyone help with cutting through VA red tape?

Looking for anyone that knows of who to call and or email at the VA that can tell me what benefits might be available for my 87 year old father who is a WWII Vet.

Over the past two weeks I have filled out a bunch of online forms and left several messages of which most I have not heard back from and those people who have called me back directed me to the online forms.

My parents are not computer savvy (this is why I am filling things out) and while everything has been going on with my Dad my Mom came down with a very bad cold and we are hoping it does not turn into pneumonia.

We purchased an adjustable bed for my Dad it will be delivered on Monday in hopes that we can get the swelling in his legs down which is limiting his mobility (we have been fighting this for several months).

He is now on oxygen 24/7 he has hearing issues and really cannot hear people of over the phone. Not being able to be independent has in my opinion caused depression.

They have good insurance Dad worked a Lockheed for over 35 years but I need to try and cut through a bit of the red tape as I am basically the only one here in town that can help but due to my work schedule I am looking for as many shortcuts as possible.

Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

FYI he also has a lifetime membership to the VFW I called the Littleton Post and the message I go back was to call meals on wheels for food issues and their post does not have a buddy type program where other vets visit and talk so he feels like he has a life and that he is important and such.

Please PM me with any information.

Thanks

I think I should let one of our vet's speak as my information is several years old.

We were getting the run around, bad information or no return calls so we contacted our state house representative and talked to one of the assistants who gave us the name of a contact who acts on behalf of Vets. If you go to the nearest VA hospital and ask or call they will tell you who a contact person is. He will help you get through the red tape. We did the same thing for another family member in another state.

mountaindollar, you might want to change the title of the post so that some of our vets might see it and respond or put in the courthouse where there are some. Something like "need some help with VA red tape".
