This is making the rounds in my wood splitting circles.

Is there a name for the way you split wood. Or do you know of a vid. Or do you have a vid. I have been hunting around but have had zero luck.

Force and mass? I wish there was a video. Didn't you look for one a while ago. I wonder if anyone has pictures from that day?

So do I. I might have but I do not remember anything past a moment ago.

I had one of those fancy "chopper one" axe gadgets once, it worked pretty good.

Chopping up this soft dry pine wood is a piece of cake, nothing compared to the hardwood I grew up with. Try splitting Elm sometime! LOL

I asked him on Facebook and he said no, there's nothing special about it (and no videos that he knows of), but he would call it hard times woodwork. LOL

He is wrong about that. It was very special.

I used to split everything by hand and have become quite spoiled by my hydraulics. That is an interesting tool though.

ditto. Assuming that the weight is not symmetrical,it seems to me that wrist injuries would be likely.

I split by hand for my first 24 years of wood burning. Doubt I could do it now but it is possible to get the same effect as that tool with a little bit of wrist action towards the bottom of the swing.

Still, I have never seen anything like the demonstration that Rocdoc put on. He told me it was common in Europe but I have not found anything on the internet.

I have used something like this before when in Finland. Not quite the same design I don't think and it did a number on the wrist. And notice the size of the wood. We use much bigger pieces for our woodstove.
