I wasn't ever in the band, the closest thing I do to singing is when I drop something heavy on my foot. I played football from grade 6 as a center or guard, ran track as a distance man, and ran cross country. Lot's of my team mates liked to make fun of the kids in the band, I never understood their motives but I did comprehend the inference that they were easy targets.
The marching band kids were often on the field before and after our practices and they worked hard to get their routines right, even when when were having two a day practices in the middle of summer vacation.
I learned about marching in the Navy, it's not easy to direct a single column much less do anything fancy. The kids in this video have musical talent and they can march better than a lot of career military members that I worked with:
