United States Now No. 1 in Wine Consumption
Wine consumption continues to rise in 2013 as more Americans develop a taste for wine, while France, Italy and even China see declines

It's official: The United States drinks more wine than any other nation on earth. Americans consumed 329 million cases in 2013—a 1 percent increase over 2012, and 18 percent, or 51 million cases, over 2005—making the U.S. now the world's top wine market by volume, according to data from Impact Databank.

Projections in recent years had put the U.S. on track to pass France,

While the U.S. is not the top country in per-capita consumption, it is now the only country in the top five that has posted an increase every year since 2000.

And I swear it wasn't because of me!

:sarcasm: Voice of a guilty conscious? I'm curious what qualifies as wine as referred to by the story given the current state of the economy, I suppose if Night Train and Mad Dog 20/20 are included then it starts to make sense that America is the number one consumer of wine... :Whistle :splat:

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

This is from Wine Spectator, the premier wine magazine in the world. I'm pretty sure Mad Dog doesn't even register in their thoughts, much less grace their pages. LOL

Nah, we're just turning in a bunch of winos. One last thing to beat the French at!

Anecdotally I would agree with this. So many of my friends have switched from beer and hard alcohol to wine. Some see it as a healthy alternative, especially red wines. I tend to celebrate diversity and continue to drink it all, hard, beer and wine, but in moderation.
