OJ Simpson Slow-Speed Chase 20 Years Today

It's hard to believe it's been 20 years. I remember watching some of the trial on TV, and seeing the DNA analysis being discussed on the stand, him trying on the glove that didn't fit, and standing outside my advisor's class contemplating sneaking in during a break and letting him know the verdict because we'd discussed it in class and I knew he was eager to know the outcome.

When I saw the verdict read on TV I felt, and still don't feel, justice was served. The DNA analysis of the crime scene convinced me of his guilt, but the timeline and glove debacle threw enough doubt into the case. I read a story recently that actually implicated their son, and that would fit the evidence - the RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) DNA test could give a false positive with closely genetically-related suspects, and I'd be interested to see if the son's hands would fit in the gloves (and what a DNA sequencing analysis would yield).

Here's the original AP story of the slow speed chase that locked our attention to the TV:

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Usually, because of my background, I am very in tune with celebrity murders & deaths...but I wasn't so much with this case for two reasons: 1) I was right in the middle of my divorce and my mind was occupied with things closer to my heart & 2) The week Nicole & Ron were murdered I moved from one unit to a brand new one and I was very busy getting the new unit up and running.

I vaguely remember the slow-speed chase on the freeways in California--mostly because it happened on my baby sister's birthday, but again, didn't pay a whole lot of attention.

When this case started going before the courts, that is when I sat up and took notice. And, when the verdict was going to be read, we at work cobbled together a TV with an antenna 'cuz we didn't have cable in the building I worked in...and my office was the only one where we could get a signal, so the majority of the people in my building were around the TV when the verdict was read. At that time, I thought to myself, OJ may not have actually committed the murders, but he was part of it--he paid someone to do it, he knows who did it--something. And that has been my opinion ever since.

A few years ago I saw that a book was coming out called How I Helped OJ Get Away with It by Mike Gilbert, an individual that had been one of OJ's sports agents and friends for 20+ years. So I bought it. I've included the Amazon page with the description...interesting read.

Anyways, it convinced me that my thinking was correct in that OJ had something to do with it...he had everything to do with it...but it goes further and tells about the robbery in Las Vegas.

One of the things the book talks about is that OJ has Rheumatoid Arthritis and the author suggested to him that he not take his medication the day he was to try on the glove.

Of course, as in football, there are "armchair attorneys" that "know" what happened--and I could be one of them.

I also saw something last Friday on TV where the prosecution were banking on the DNA evidence and had other evidence and witnesses that were never introduced--that and that they didn't know the glove wouldn't fit, pretty much blew their case.

The sad thing about this whole life-story, is that OJ & Nicole's kids lost their mother and have now lost their father.
