The grassroots efforts by the Jeffco5 group to have put on the ballot a measure to vote to increase the number of Jefferson County Commissioners from 3 to 5 has failed to acquire sufficient signatures.

As posted on their Facebook Page:

Let the People Decide
(For immediate release: July 1, 2014):

Jeffco5 falls short but resolves to keep fighting for better representation

The group remains resolved to push this issue forward in the coming years, and hopes a future Board of Commissioners will take the step of referring the question to the voters directly.

Initiative to increase number of Jefferson County commissioners doesn't get signatures

A grassroots effort to get a question on the ballot to expand the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners from three to five members and have the commissioners elected by district was unsuccessful, the group announced Tuesday.

The ballot question would have had voters choose how to elect five commissioners: five district seats, or three districts and two at-large seats.

Currently, the three commissioners represent and reside in their district, but are elected at large. If passed, Jeffco would have joined Arapahoe, Weld, El Paso and Adams as counties with five-person boards.
