Just curious for those who have had to mitigate for their insurance how far out did you have to go? Also, was it from the foundation or from the edge of say the deck?
Our insurance came out last year and they have not said a word, we did have a grant through our sub-division and we cut down over 100 trees at that time (about 2 years ago).
My questions is because we are going to be building a new deck next year and this fall will probably take down a few more trees to prepare but at the same time want to make sure that we are compliant with what most insurance companies are asking.
For those of you that had to take down pine trees close to the house/deck do you know if you can replace with aspens? We mostly want it for shade and dust control during the summer but don’t want to spend the money to put an aspen in to be told we need to take it down.

My impression is that there is no industry standard and not even a standard within one company. I understand the inspectors are independent contractors. When we bought this cabin they insisted we replace the roof on the detached garage. They ignored the more serious problem of the roof on the cabin which would have been a much larger loss in the event of a leak. I assume that is because the garage roof is visible without a ladder. The cabin roof is not. That suggests to me that the inspector looked at what he felt like and was not working off a check list.
