Rezoning could bring skiing to land along U.S. 285

The 53-acre lot off U.S. 285 is zoned for 26 homes on two-acre lots. The landowner has asked the county to re-zone the land to allow 22 homes on 22 acres. The remaining 31 acres would be re-zoned to open space and recreational area.

The developer says the open space could be used for hiking and biking trails and could also host a sledding and skiing area.

"We think it would be a nice common amenity," Doug Reed said. "If you think of people who buy houses because they back up to a golf course, that's a nice amenity that attracts people."

But neighbors like Paul Grosscup worry about what that might mean.
