Expect this to ramp up in the coming months.

JEFFERSON COUNTY - Two Jefferson County high schools are closed on Friday because of a high number of teacher absences, according to the school district.

Both Standley Lake High School and Confier High School will not have classes on Friday.

The group Campaign for a Strong Colorado told 9NEWS that a parent of a student at Standley Lake High School said there was a walk out scheduled at 8:20 a.m. Friday.

The parent said the walkout was over the proposal in the Jefferson County School district that would create a committee of nine people that would make sure Advanced Placement U.S. History is taught correctly.

I would respect the teachers more if they walked out on a Wednesday. Using the kids as pawns to get a 3 day weekend is childish.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

Renegade, I think that's unfair assuming that this is about wanting a 3 day weekend. The school board meeting was just last night where this proposal was discussed, I'm pretty sure it's about sending an immediate message after that meeting.

I guess I am jaded from previous experiences. Teachers have "inservice days" on fridays as well, even though many of them don't show up at the school for these planning days.

I still don't know what they are complaining about. I've talked to teachers today, and all they know is what the letter from the union says.

I think the pseudo strike is a bit over top. Just because they didn't get their way or didn't like what they heard. Using the kids to send a message certainly makes me question what the teachers real motivation is and certainly erodes any support that I had for them.
