EVENT: Ribbon cutting for Guffey’s successful broadband internet service project.

BACKGROUND: Satisfactory broadband internet service has been the focus of Park County Commissioner Mike Brazell and a number of committee members, advisors and potential internet providers for a number of months, drawing in as many communities and neighborhoods as possible to the round-table style discussions.

THE PROJECT: The people of Guffey were quick to determine what was needed to provide internet to their tiny town, and eagerly set finding ways to make it work. They rallied around a desire to have broadband internet service to the area and particularly to the school. They researched and acquired the land for the best place to put a tower, found funding and volunteered to make the needed infrastructure happen.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE EVENT: At the celebration, the 3rd through 5th grade students will present the story of the project followed by a ribbon-cutting at the internet pole and solar power shed nearby and a chili lunch. Lt. Gov Garcia is invited to attend, underscoring the effectiveness of Governor Hickenlooper’s economic development strategy for rural Colorado and the desire for internet access to rural schools.
