We have become aware that two people fell into icy Evergreen Lake yesterday. A fisherman fell into Evergreen Lake yesterday when the ice cracked, and his rescuer tumbled into the icy water after him. He was fishing too close to the part that was not frozen. Please be aware that just because you see ice doesn't mean it is thick enough to support you. A good rule of thumb: when the skating rink is open, the ice is thick enough for fishing.
Public safety is of paramount importance to Evergreen Park & Recreation District, and we want the public to understand the dangerous nature of water in the winter. There are "Thin Ice" signs posted at Evergreen Lake. We prefer that people use the lake for sanctioned activities such as Ice Skating in the rink. Please follow the signs and use caution and common sense!
Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) was formed in 1969 to serve the park and recreation needs of the communities of Evergreen, Bergen Park, Indian Hills, Kittredge and Marshdale. EPRD serves approximately 23,000 people residing within its boundaries, and offers affordable recreational options to non-district residents. Learn more at
