Snow starts to fall as storm threatens to paralyze the crowded Northeast US

Mashable set up a Blizzardcam in their headquarters in NYC. Less than impressive so far... :offtobed:
Live cam: Blizzard hits NYC

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

One of my great nephews makes his home in North Western New Hampshire. He got together with his neighbors and gathered what they need for their version of a hurricane party on Saturday. I spoke to him on the phone earlier today and he says it's snowing but nothing crazy like the predictions. Taking the whole thing in stride, adults taking turns watching kids play in the snow while the other adults cook, imbibe, and "take a nap" every few hours.

:firering: :happysnow: :sledding:

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Once again the lamestream media getting their panties in a wad and causing folks to panic over a non-event. But what the hey! At least they can avoid reporting real news!

Six inches in NYC was the last report I saw. :snowfalling
Denver? That would just get you a delayed school start.

Least we forget the "Georgia game-changer" last year (?).....THEY did not prepare, oblivious to the
ramifications and the fubar that ensued was monumental...REALLY, it's damned if you do,damned if you
don't because you have some REALLY unaware/questionable intelligence (read stupid) people out there
when the sh--hits the fan...they call 911 and put emergency responders in peril...I rather see caution then chaos....so, I believe they handled it CORRECTLY... :snowman:

Good point, homeagain, but...

Does it strike anyone as odd though how much time on national news is devoted to weather reports these days? Certainly a predicted large magnitude storm that will impact air traffic is worth 30 - 45 seconds of national airtime, but the several minutes with location reporters and teasers for their morning shows, etc. - really??? Most of that, I believe, belongs on the local news, not the national.

Like cydl, I believe that the only purpose for such "in-depth" reporting of a regional weather event on a national broadcast is to avoid reporting real news.

And, as you say, it really is damned if you do and damned if you don't. People need to be more prepared to deal with such events. It isn't that difficult.

In TOTALLY AGREEMENT that MSM is woefully wasted when it comes to HARD core news...I rely on BBC or ALJAZERRA AMERICA for real reporting and information. Other sources in print, you get a
totally overview of events.

Wonder what trivial tripe they'll find to report on now that NYC isn't paralyzed, after the snow melts further north and the deflated footballs run their course.

Mr. de Blasio noted the precautions were taken after getting “a consensus from meteorologists across the board” that the blizzard would be a historic one, instead of what ended up a fairly regular bout of January snow.

Is this like the "consensus" from climate scientists? Since it was a "consensus," I guess whatever snow you see on the ground is wrong, no matter what the real facts appears to be, it was really 2-3 feet and the "consensus" proves it.

Consensus has always been an overrated form of government and science.
