About Eagle's Nest:
A family based facility for children with severe and profound disabilities
www.eaglesnestgroupcenter.org/
Eagles Nest (EN) is a small non-profit located in rural Bailey, Colorado. EN cares for the severe and profound disabled population. Ben and Melanie Kennedy, who founded EN in 1988, have been advocating for the disabled population since 1979. EN is a 24 staffed facility that cares for children ages 3-21 and adults 21 and up. EN became a non-profit on 2009. The Kennedy's have run EN on an extremely tight budget with no extra outside funding or grants. In 2012 Ben was diagnosed with a rare cancer. He underwent an extremely intensive surgery. His recovery is very slow and the prognosis is unknown. Ben was the EN maintenance man. Since his diagnosis the repairs to the facility have reduced to only the bare minimums. With the small budget, hiring out a full time maintenance man is not a possibility. Since 2012, Laurie Kennedy, Ben and Melanie's youngest daughter, has taken over the everyday operations of EN. Her goal is to raise enough money to fix everything that is needed at EN.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
