FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Future of Meyer Ranch

Conifer, Colorado – February 14, 2015

A historic landmark in Jefferson County will soon be for sale. Meyer Ranch in Conifer began as the John McIntyre homestead in 1889. The original cabin is gone, but the “McIntyre Barn” remains as an excellent example of very early wooden-pegged, hand-hewn construction. The Rambeau family bought the homestead in 1882 and built the “Midway House”, a beautiful Queen Anne style farmhouse. Norm and Ethel Meyer purchased the ranch in 1950. Over the next several decades, Norm and Ethel would purchase additional acreage, preserving the natural views we enjoy today.

Norm was active with the Jefferson County Historical Commission, and one of his accomplishments resulted in the Midway House listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Norm was dedicated to historic preservation, and he and Norm Jr. signed a Deed of Conservation Easement with Jefferson County Open Space to preserve and protect the property from specific uses including subdivision and commercial use.

In recent years, the Conifer Historical Society completed a Historic Structure Assessment and an Economic Feasibility Study with grants from the State Historic Fund. Norm Meyer Sr. and his son, Norm, signed an agreement with the Society in 2010 in favor of the structure assessment and feasibility study. With the passing of Norm, the ten acre parcel that includes the historic Midway House, the McIntyre Barn, and the Lubin-Blakeslee Cabin will soon be for sale.

The Conifer Historical Society will be hosting a Tribute to Norm Meyer on Sunday March 1st at 1:00pm at the Stage Door Theater. Admission is free, no reservations, and seating is limited.
