, "The term '420' entered drug parlance as a term signifying the time to light up a joint."
'420' began its sub-rosa linguistic career in 1971 as a bit of slang casually used by a group of high school kids at San Rafael High School in California. '420' (always pronounced "four-twenty," never "four hundred and twenty") came to be an accepted part of the argot within that group of about a dozen pot smokers, beginning as a reminder of the time they planned to meet to light up, 4:20 p.m.
A friend of mine who now lives in Istanbul posted the picture of this ketchup packet below quite some time ago after visiting a local restaurant (none of us who've moved here had any idea there was such a thing as "Colorado Ketchup", and this was before the recreational marijuana law passed). I asked his permission to use it for some fun since this was the thought I had about that ketchup after I saw it. Say hello to the My Mountain Town Colorado 420 meme!

Interesting. I had heard that 420 was police code for a marijuana violation.
Looks like Colorado and Washington aren't going to be the only recreational jurisdictions for long. Expect many more states to let their citizens vote on recreational MJ in 2016. (One good way to get the stoners out and voting.)

This sounds wicked cool! Another unique way to learn more about the edible scene is by booking some time with a marijuana tour company. Cultivating Spirit’s is a Cannabis Tourism, and Experience company located in the Central Rocky mountains. They provide responsible, educational, and spirited Cannabis experiences by providing Grow Tours, Private Gourmet Dinners, Cannabis and Wine Pairings, Cooking Demonstrations, Cooking with Cannabis Demonstrations, and Cannabis Education Classes. These unique tours promote safety first with Limo service for transportation between all of their activities.
If you’re new to the whole scene don’t be embarrassed. Ask questions. Become educated. It is incredibly interesting to walk into a pot shop.
I think there are definitely health benefits justifying the use of marijuana, but it is still a potent chemical and should be treated with respect and used cautiously/in moderation (commercial preparation is completely different from using what's found in nature, just like commercial food prep). I absolutely don't think kids should be using it at all - their brains are still developing and use could have long-term consequences. I have a friend who was addicted to marijuana, and it very significantly affected their behavior and their health. It was astounding the difference when they decided to stop smoking every day. That being said, I feel that at this time that the forces against it are unjustified and need to be relaxed. It should not be a felony to have possession or grow it - the rest of the states need to catch up to us. There also needs to be much larger support for all of the industries that come from hemp. It is a fantastic renewable resource.

How Safe Is Recreational Marijuana? As more states make recreational marijuana legal, researchers fret about short- and long-term health effects
May 14, 2013 |By Roxanne Khamsi
Some success with medical marijuana helped to pave the road to wider legalization of pot. Eighteen states and the District of Columbia permit possession and consumption of the drug for medical purposes. Doctors in those jurisdictions may prescribe cannabis to treat or manage ailments ranging from glaucoma—an eye disease in which the optic nerve is damaged—to menstrual cramps. Cancer patients sometimes smoke pot to relieve the pain and nausea brought on by chemotherapy, and some people with the inflammatory disease multiple sclerosis rely on marijuana to ease muscle stiffness.
Although many physicians agree that marijuana is safe enough to temporarily alleviate the symptoms of certain medical conditions, the safety of recreational use is poorly understood. Researchers worry that both the short- and long-term use of the drug may harm the body and mind. Marijuana's continued popularity among teenagers raises particular concern because the drug might hinder the ongoing maturation of the adolescent brain.
Just discovered this site, it looks interesting. Haven't had time to explore in-depth and see how credible or reliable it is, but I like the premise. 60 Peer-Reviewed Studies on Medical Marijuana
