EVERGREEN, Colo. — Threats have been made against the Evergreen couple accused of starving their six-year-old daughter, law enforcement sources told FOX31 Denver.
Jason Barton, 40, and Katie Barton, 36, face child abuse resulting in serious bodily harm.
Their daughter weighed just 25 pounds when the couple brought her to Children’s Hospital on June 10.
The parents admitted taking their daughter out of kindergarten and placing locks on their refrigerator to keep their oldest child from eating. Doctors compared the girl to a concentration camp victim, a girl who told investigators she was forced to run laps in her driveway for taking food without permission.

Can you imagine? If they are found guilty, that baby will never get to live with his or her parents. While for the best if they did that to his/her sibling, I find it all so sad.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A couple from Evergreen accused of nearly starving their 6-year-old daughter to death are expecting another baby.
Kathleen Barton, 36, was visibly pregnant when she appeared in court Tuesday. She is 7 months pregnant with the couple’s fourth child.
She and her husband, 40-year-old Jason Barton, are charged with child abuse resulting in bodily harm in the case of their oldest child.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
Two investigators from the sheriff's office testified during Thursday's hearing. Jefferson County sheriff's investigator Jaime Zieck said Katie Barton's mother and brother both filed reports with social services. He interviewed both family members.
He testified that Barton's mother said she and her husband were barely allowed to interact with the kids and couldn't talk to them during dinner.
Doctors noted that the 6-year-old had the average weight of a 24-month-old child and the height of a 3-year-old.
But doctors also told investigators she did not have autism, or any behavioral or social disorder, and did not have any medical, psychological or genetic reason that would explain the weight loss.
The third and final witness is expected to testify on Dec. 3.
