Now that the comments have been received from the previous survey, a draft plan has been produced. Public comments are being requested from now until April 8, 2016 on the new Draft Plan. Please review it and provide input through this new survey so the county can correctly prioritize future mitigation projects.

In brief review of the Draft Plan, while fire has been rated as High priority for mitigation (above medium for flood mitigation in lower Jeffco), what is concerning is that only Evergreen Fire Rescue and Indian Hills Fire are involved in preparing this Hazard Mitigation Plan - not Elk Creek Fire, Inter-Canyon Fire, or North Fork Fire. Your input is needed to ensure that the hazards that we uniquely face in our mountain communities are given proper weight and attention.

The Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Plan is an effort to reduce the impact of natural hazards to citizens and property in Jefferson County. It outlines actions that will mitigate the hazards’ effects and break the cycle of repetitive losses.

The threat of wildfire is strong in Jefferson County. Homeowners should practice mitigation techniques to protect their property and structures. For more, check out the video on wildfire mitigation, below.

Jefferson County has developed an update to its 2010 Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan under the guidance of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. The draft plan is being made available for public review and comment here, under the "DRAFT for New 2016 Hazard Mitigation Documents" section. It is intended for this document to be finalized later this year.

If you'd like to submit feedback, please review these documents and then follow the link to the Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan survey to record your feedback.

Please provide comments by April 8, 2016.
