Mountain Lion with Deer Kill at Bailey Home

Knowing that we live among wildlife and being abruptly confronted with it are two vastly different experiences, as Joshua Berrill shared with us late last night. He has a mountain lion visiting his house where she had a deer kill and was feasting; we thought this was a great opportunity for a reminder about living amongst our wild residents. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has a great brochure with information here: cpw.state.co.us/Documents/Education/Livi.../LivingWithLions.pdf
And more information here: cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/LivingwithWildlifeLion1.aspx

Thank you Joshua for sharing your photos and video with us! Mountain Lion at Bailey Home:

From Joshua:
"Mountain lion video and pictures I shot from today, 4/26/16, in Bailey. Suspected female lion on a deer kill about 20 feet from my back door. Colorado Parks and Wildlife District Wildlife Manager Dawson Swanson came to my home today and removed what little was left of deer carcass after lion had been feeding for possibly 3 days judging by size of lion and deer according to Swanson. Lion was observed by myself from 7PM last night until about 9PM tonight even though carcass was removed around noon today. Swanson said to expect another visit as lion would return to kill site and inspect area. He was correct. There have been multiple sightings of this same lion in area within last 4 months. Beautiful and a little scary at same time. Thought you might like to share. Feel free if you like. Josh Berrill Bailey, Co."

Cool pictures, but also a good wakeup call. I have been feeding the wild turkeys around our place. A couple days ago I found the remnants of a turkey, probably a coyote got it. Feeding turkeys meant I was indirectly feeding coyotes.
