Hi everyone! Just a heads up that IREA is scheduling a power outage for updates next Wednesday from 7am-3pm. You might want to call and see if your business is affected, as it sounds like it is pretty widespread and not all businesses were notified...
Per Shawn Porter:
Last information I heard was from Tiny Town to Elk Creek Elementary (approximately) where the IREA Conifer office is located (13404 Old US HWY 285). Approximately 60,000 customers along Hwy 285.
Subdivisions/areas expected to be off include:
***********************************************************************************************************************************************************
The King Soopers complex and S Turkey Creek should stay on along with the West Ranch area. Also the South side of Aspen Park as we are back feeding from a Sedalia district substation.
We are back feeding Bailey and parts of Shaffer's crossing from the South and we ask that EVERYONE conserve on Tuesday night and Wednesday to help us push the electricity as far North as we can due to the strain on the system.
On the South side from Kenosha to Burland to Pine Junction should stay on. Up 43 to Harris Park should stay on.
It is an Xcel outage to replace a transmission pole and while we know there is no good time to have a planned outage we thought that those who work will be gone by 7am and the power will be on by the time you get home. Safety dictates they can not do this work at night and it would obviously take longer.
If you didn't get a letter you should stay on. (unless you have not kept us updated with your contact info)
Please pass the word to EVERYONE from Kenosha to Shaffers to conserve during the outage as it will help all! Hope this helps.
Clarification from IREA:
We received a phone call from them just now and they expressed their condolences for the confusion caused. In order to keep homeowners safe, they contacted only those who would be affected by private letter, and will be calling those who will be affected tonight, rather than sharing which areas would be without power publicly.
If you have any questions, please contact IREA
at 303-674-6879 (Conifer office). Again, according to IREA, if you did not receive a letter or do not get a phone call tonight, you will not/should not be affected. No news is good news. This is an XCel maintenance issue that is affecting their district and while they hope it will be less than the time listed, they can't guarantee anything because this isn't their project.
The Intermountain Rural Electric Association has planned a power outage for parts of its Conifer and Evergreen service areas on Wednesday, June 8.
According to IREA spokesman Josh Liss, the outage will last most of the day and is necessary for the repair and replacement of Xcel Energy transmission infrastructure.
“It’s not going to affect the entire area — those who will be impacted have received a letter and will be getting an automated call later this evening," Liss said. "Those that have not received advance notification will not be impacted.”
An estimated 4,700 customers will be affected.

Due to the scheduled power outage by Intermountain Rural Electric Association and Xcel Energy for much of the Conifer/Aspen Park area for Wednesday, June 8, a portable restroom will be dropped off in the main parking lot at Flying J Ranch Park on Tuesday, June 7 and picked up on Thursday, June 9 since the restroom is not fully functional without electricity.
Conifer planned outage underway, affecting fewer customers than anticipated
CONIFER – A planned power outage began for some IREA customers in the Conifer area at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. The outage is necessary in order for IREA and Xcel Energy to perform repairs and maintenance to Xcel transmission infrastructure that supplies power to IREA customers in the Conifer operations district. The work needed to be scheduled soon in order to mitigate the potential for future unplanned outages that could prove to be more inconvenient to customers and longer in duration. The outage was scheduled for 7 a.m. and is anticipated to last up to eight hours, depending on how quickly the work can be completed.
IREA worked to notify affected customers in advance of the planned outage, sending letters and automated phone calls to those who would be without power. However, as of shortly before 7 a.m. this morning, IREA was able to determine that many of the customers who were initially believed to be part of the outage would be able to successfully have power rerouted to them.
“Shortly before 7 a.m., we were able to verify there were more circuits to which we could safely reroute power,” said IREA Spokesman Josh Liss. “This allows us to keep the power on for approximately 1,300 customers whom would have been otherwise without power today.”
Automated phone calls were sent to those customers this morning to notify them that their power should stay on.
Over the past several weeks, IREA has conducted testing to determine whether power could be safely and reliably re-routed to a larger number of customers than previously predicted. Weather and customer loads are the main factors in that determination. As a precaution, if there was a possibility a customer could be without power during the outage, notice was sent so they could be prepared.
Crews are now working to quickly and safely make the necessary repairs and perform the maintenance activities so power can be restored to customers. A daytime outage was necessary in order to safely perform the required work and minimize the duration of the outage. Attempting to perform this work at night could have presented safety issues and lengthen the amount of time customers are without power.

At approximately 2:45p.m., it was determined that the planned power outage in the Conifer area is expected to be extended until approximately 4 p.m. this afternoon. Crews are working quickly to complete the replacement of a structure supporting Xcel Energy transmission lines that normally supply power to the IREA Conifer operations district. The work is progressing and crews expect to be finished soon, but we do expect the outage will last a few minutes longer than originally projected. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Crews have completed their work and are in the process of re-energizing lines now. Affected customers should have power back on momentarily. We would again like to thank our customers for their patience and also thank the Xcel and IREA crews working in cooperation to complete this difficult and important work.
