In case you were wondering what those blue and orange wires/tubes are that are being installed down Highway 285, they are fiber optic cables that will be needed for the accommodation of future driver-less cars.
This project will install fiber optic cable along US 285, from C-470 to Tiny Town. This will accommodate the future implementation of the intelligent transportation system (ITS), which will include the use of connected vehicles (aka, driverless cars).
Project work, estimated to cost $3 million (and valued at $15 million), will be completed during the day, Monday - Friday, through November 2016.
Project Team
Project Engineer(s): Jill Scott
Contractor(s): Zayo, Paonia, Fiber Works and Dillie and Kuhn
CDOT has shared its right-of-way and existing infrastructure with Zayo, in exchange for its construction work on this project.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
