1870 Cabin Renovation
Log engineer Alex Charvat has been called in to restore a historic cabin in Conifer, Colorado, and transform it into an Old West saloon for entertaining. Using materials from the property, Alex and the owner, Dale, attempt to refashion the logs with the same tools used by the original homesteaders in 1870. Will the effort to eliminate the roof rafters in favor of one large log ridge beam backfire on Alex and Dale when they realize it's too heavy to lift by hand?

Meet the host of Cabin Rescue: ALEX CHARVAT:
Alex Charvat is the owner of Alexander Structures, Inc. which is a nationally recognized engineering practice focused on log structure design and rescue. Alex is a licensed Professional Engineer for several states, specializing in the log and timber structures and he is also a former forester. Alex is a Wisconsin native and a cowboy at heart. He calls Colorado home and enjoys shooting, hunting, four wheeling, skiing, camping, and of course cabins. His first cabin was on family land, crafted on summer weekends with his family and girlfriend, who said “yes” after he proposed that fall in that very same cabin. Today he and his wife have three girls, live in a slightly larger cabin, and enjoy everything the mountains have to offer.
Fun Fact: Alex is also a skilled marksman- and was featured on the History Channel show "Top Shot"

Throw another log on Colorado’s reality-TV fire.
Shot in Conifer in July, the pilot episode of “Cabin Rescue” is set to debut on the Great American Country network at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, to be followed by additional airings on Great American Country and DIY Network.
Producers have high hopes for the show, which adds to the growing list of niche but national-reaching series produced in the Denver metro area. “Cabin Rescue” follows engineer and ex-forester Alex Charvat of Alexander Structures, Inc. as he rehabilitates historic log cabins and spruces up mountain luxury homes.
In the pilot, Charvat restores a Conifer cabin built in 1870, which was definitively dated by examining the age of the tree rings (a method known as dendrochronology). Due to its historic status, Charvat and his crew faced the tricky job of preserving the cabin’s structure even as it threatened to cave in on itself — all on a relatively modest $20,000 budget.
Shows like “Cabin Rescue” also showcase Colorado businesses in a way that paid advertising can scarcely touch, producers said. The pilot, for example, features the work of Evergreen’s Apex Electric, Pine’s Jenkins Construction and Brighton’s Sashco, Inc..
“I’m not a jack of all trades. For this show, I bring in the masters of the trade and then manage that,” said Charvat, a Wisconsin native who lives in a cabin in Conifer with his wife and three girls. “Denver’s one of the fastest growing cities right now because there’s still this mystique of the Wild West, and that goes perfectly with the whole log cabin theme.”
