MORRISON – A town police officer has resigned amid an investigation into “impropriety” within the police department.

9Wants to Know has confirmed Lt. Anthony Joiner was placed on paid administrative leave when the town launched an investigation in early December.

In 2015, 9Wants to Know interviewed Joiner as part of an investigation into the town’s lucrative traffic ticketing efforts .

Former Morrison police officer pleads not guilty

Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 1:44 pm (Updated: October 5, 1:45 pm)

A former Morrison police officer pleaded not guilty Thursday morning to charges of theft, attempt to influence a public servant, embezzlement and forgery.

Anthony Joiner, 38, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury in July on 29 counts. He is accused of stealing more than $132,000 from the town of Morrison between December 2010 and February 2016 through a private fund he created called the “5280 Police Motors Memorial Fund,” according to a news release from the Jeffco District Attorney’s office.

Joiner returns to court for a Dec. 7 pre-trial motions hearing, and Hall said this would be Joiner’s last opportunity to work out a plea bargain should he choose to.

Pre-trial motions hearing continued for former Morrison officer
The motions hearing has been continued in the case of a former Morrison police officer arrested in connection with theft, attempt to influence a public servant, embezzlement and forgery.

Anthony Paul Joiner, 38, will return to court Monday for a pre-trial motions hearing, though there were talks of a plea deal in court on Thursday.

Although Judge Dennis Hall said in October he wouldn’t accept a plea bargain past Joiner’s Dec. 7 court date, he reversed this after the prosecution and defense detailed a lengthy back-and-forth discussion of negotiations.

Joiner is required to return to court at 8 a.m. Monday as a condition of his bond. At this time, his defense team will either move forward with the pre-trial motions hearing or accept a plea deal.
