GoFundMe - Help Hank & Barbie Alderfer!

A GoFundMe has been set up by my friend Lisa Hamm-Greenawalt of EPRD for Hank and Barbie Alderfer's medical bills. Hank has been suffering from Parkinson's for some time now, and Barbie has been taking care of him while working cleaning houses. Now, she's been diagnosed with breast cancer. They could use our help; please give if you can!

Hank and Barbie have done so much to shape and protect the Evergreen community over the past 50 years, and they need your help!

Hank has been an avid volunteer and one of our community’s most devoted historians. His decision to sell his family home, Alderfer Ranch, to Jeffco Open Space protected hundreds of acres for future generations has shaped our landscape. He also helped the Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT) protect hundreds of acres from development, and served on the Evergreen Park & Recreation District board for 16 years. Last year he published Yesteryear, a compendium of the historical columns he wrote for the Canyon Courier over seven years. He was recently inducted into the Jeffco Hall of Fame. (Here's his profile in justaroundhere.com)

His wife Barbie has been by his side through it all, and over the past few years has been her family’s sole breadwinner as Hank has fought the battle of Parkinson’s Disease. It’s been a struggle to get by.

But now they need our help

Barbie has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and as she begins her fight against this disease, this couple that has done so much for our mountain community needs your help.

Between almost $6,000 in anticipated out-of-pocket medical costs, $6,500 in projected lost wages while Barbie recovers from surgery and treatment, plus the cost of care for Barbie and Hank during this period -- the couple needs about $15,000 to stay afloat.

Please give!

If you enjoy hiking in Alderfer/Three Sisters Park or Elk Meadow, working out in a Rec Center, or just enjoy the scent of the pine trees that give Evergreen its name, you have Hank and Barbie to thank. Now is the time to give back!

Any contribution you can make, be it $5 or $500, will be appreciated to show Hank and Barbie that we have their backs!

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
