Tuesday Tip

Cool your power costs by installing a smart thermostat and adding insulation this summer. A typical home will save $50 to $100 per year with a smart thermostat, which can automatically adapt to your cooling/heating needs, match outside temperatures and be controlled via phone or other smart device.

It might seem more important during colder months, but insulation also traps cooler air during warmer months. A resistance rating between R38 and R60 is recommended for most homes in IREA’s service territory.

Use a ceiling fan if you need only temporary comfort from the heat. The cost to power it is a fraction of multi-room A/C. Be sure to turn it off when no longer needed, though, as a fan only cools people and does not lower the room’s temperature. #TuesdayTip
