SO-O-O....just keeping plugged into the progress(using the turn loosely)of beautiful Bailey. I understand there is a teacher retreat/conf. project
going in on 285/43 where the Smokey Bear Sign is? That the concern has purchased the ENTIRE valley, and will build out in three phases?
The Flume reports, but I do not have sub and link is locked.
Wasn't that Doziers land and wasn't there a BIG BLOW regarding elk migration/calving in that basic area. I KNOW it was shut down about
10 years ago....isn't the calving issue STILL a major concern or are the developers dumping the wildlife issue for big dollar payout?
iF that project passes ALL Parkco permits......THAT area will be just as crappy as King's Valley access/285.
THANKS for the link BB.....will be watching future factors.....ELK calving, septic, water issues,
DEER CREEK potential pollution AND access improvement onto 285 TANKED the last attempt
BUT that was a dozen years ago.....but EVERYONE attended meetings and the heat became
too much for the developers to pursue further. WE (collectively) stopped them AND the
church developers who wanted to do a mega church across from the library in MILL IRON D.
NOT sure there is that kind of collaborative crowd on the mountain (in 2020)
I am a little torn here. It is their land and they should be able to use it the way they want to. And it also seems unfair to become an exclusive community that won't even let educators from another state enjoy our natural beauty, but the roads are already packed on weekends. Maybe having more events planned during the week might work out.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
EVERGREEN has not changed that much....(as of2015)....the charm and the ambience of it's
character seems to be constant.....WHY? Because the residents MAKE the rules and when
someone attempts to circumvent them (remember the redo of the bridge, which was NOT APPROVED)they become involved...."you give away your power by thinking you have none".
The ridge overlooking DEER CREEK VALLEY (into MILL IRON D) was home to pregnant elk, from
that vantage point the elk can see afar and safely calve..it is a fragile ecological area because of
the creek and wildlife....you destroy that desirable wildlife domain....heli pads are they REALLY that needed...WTF this is not TELLURIDE OR ASPEN.
..."Bye-bye Caribou?: Many people suddenly developed a passionate concern for the mating habits of Alaska caribou and campaign noisily against intrusion of Arctic pipelines into this essential activity, reported The Christian Science Monitor on Oct. 10, 1972. The New York Times on Oct. 14, 1973, said the question is whether the caribou will go the way of the buffalo.
Reality: Thirty years later we can see the effects of the pipeline on the caribou. Walter Hickel, a former U.S. Secretary of the Interior and governor of Alaska, said that the caribou herd has not only survived, but flourished. In 1977, as the Prudhoe region started delivering oil to America's southern 48 states, the Central Arctic caribou herd numbered 6,000; it has since grown to 27,128. Alaskas Department of Fish and Game Web site reports that in general, caribou have not been adversely affected by human activities in Alaska. Pipelines and other manmade objects have been built to accommodate caribou movements, and the animals have adapted to people and machines."...
APPROX. THE LAST THREE PARAGRAPHS address the concerns I am speaking of.....there Is
a correlation of conditions that are pertinent to the herd/offspring.
I guess I am missing something or am totally confused. The way I read the Flume article, Park County issued Conditional Use permit but many more permits will be required from the State? Is that correct and if so what kind of work are they doing that may not end up being approved. And, what about the part where the Delaware company is not registered to do business in Colorado?
HappyCamper wrote: Last year I posted on the MMT Facebook page and I think it made it to the website but no one cared.
I went to one of the meetings to get info but again no one was there. There are some things that have been approved already so it is what it is.
My schedule this year is not going to allow for me to be there during the week because of work.
I am happy to rally behind whatever but not sure if our window has passed.
YOU GIVE AWAY YOUR POWER BY THINKING YOU HAVE NONE......here is the secret,
demand the BOCC have some meetings in BAILEY,the developer has the advantage because the County seat is in Fairplay.....Kenosha Pass is the problem, especial in winter, and for those
people that are working...you are fubared to get to meetings.
KEEP in touch with the Flume and other local rags....KNOW where it stands and certainly
DEMAND info on not being licensed in Colorado.....has that been amended? CARPOOL
to the Fairplay meetings, but most important, DEMAND MEETINGS IN BAILEY. IF you care
about your quality of life on the mountain ....do what EVERGREEN does....stand up and demand accountability....just my nickle, as a 3rd gen Coloradan.
