Elk Creek Fire 2020 Chipping Program Sign Up Starts April 15th!

14 Apr 2020 14:41 #1 by ElkCreekFireDepartment

You can protect your home from wildfire with help from the Elk Creek Fire Protection District Community Chipping Program. Elk Creek Fire is helping residents and property owners create defensible space by providing free chipping of branches, logs and small trees. If you clear woody vegetation from around your home and stack it in a slash pile, we’ll chip it at no cost!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: 2020 CHIPPING PROGRAM CHANGES

In the spring of 2020, when the weather allows, the module will prioritize the left-over piles form the 2019 chipping season for those who have signed up on the website. Starting April 15th, there will be one open-sign up period on our Chipping Program page. The sign-up period will close after the first 300 applicants. We will then evaluate the chipping requests and split them into six groups based on location.

Applicants will then be sent a notification of the group they have assigned for the year by May 15th. We will regularly make announcements via social media and the website of the group we are currently servicing and when the next group can anticipate their work to begin. Additionally, a 15 pile limit per address will be implemented.

For more information and to sign up starting tomorrow, please go to elkcreekfire.org/chipping-program/

Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far for our 2020 Chipping Program! We are approaching our cutoff of 300 applicants for the 1st round of chipping so if you have been thinking about participating but haven't yet submitted your request, please do so soon.
elkcreekfire.org/chipping-program/

Once we have all 300 applicants, we'll divide everyone up based on location and create 6 groups by those locations. We'll be in touch with you when we schedule your group for chipping so we can swing by and get everyone in the same area at once. We're hoping this process makes it more efficient for you and us, and that we'll be able to get to more homes through the whole season.

If you applied within the past 2 weeks and did not hear back from us, please contact Billy Gage, our Wildland Assistant who is coordinating the program. His email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
