Every year our mountains become a fabulous lemon and lime palette that draws photographers and nature lovers alike to immerse themselves in the beauty. We want you to enjoy it to the fullest, and partake of all that our Foothills have to offer! When driving up 285 to check out the views, please remember it's a journey, not a destination. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, don't hurry, and stop along the way at our fabulous shops and restaurants to fully take in the mountain experience!
This weekend will be prime leaf hunting at Kenosha Pass and Guanella Pass, two of our most popular spots. We highly recommend heading up as early as possible to get there during the best light and before parking fills up. The Abyss Trail on Guanella is gorgeous with yellow aspen already as of last weekend (per a friend who went horseback riding and shared photos).
As days pass, lower elevation trails such as the Ben Tyler Trail, Golden Gate Canyon State Park and Staunton State Park will come into their peak colors so you can keep coming back for more!
Our local shops and restaurants are here to serve you and offer a great break from driving - make a day of it and explore all our small businesses have to offer! Start your holiday shopping early, and re-energize with some great food and drink. If you're looking for breakfast, lunch, or dinner ideas, check our Mountain Dining Forum
and any recently posted specials there.
Listen this evening, Wednesday September 22, after 5pm to the Conifer Podcast on Conifer Radio
for the 285 Tourism Committee's "285 Gold Rush Round Table" for more ideas on places to go! Happy, and safe, leaf viewing!
This year, try taking a different route, one closer to Conifer, Bailey or Pine and you will find some of the prettiest views Colorado has to offer -- with much less time in traffic.
Aspens in our area tend to peak mid-September. To help you make the most out of your aspen viewing, Macaroni KID has put together this helpful guide
that includes insight on where to find less crowded, hidden viewing spots, hikes, drives.
On your way, don't forget to stop at the local businesses. You will find great paces for a meal, a beverage, unique and fun shops and even live music to enjoy!
