2021 Christmas Trees - Permits & Local Christmas Tree Lots

Whether this is your first time cutting your own Christmas tree or it's been a family tradition for generations, it is a special experience that creates lifelong memories! This permit allows you to cut a Christmas Tree within designated areas of the Pike & San Isabel National Forests.

Please take the time to read the following information:

Permits are only valid on the district for which they were purchased. Permits are not transferable nor may they be extended from one year to the next.

Please print your Christmas tree permit and make sure you have it with you.

The South Platte Ranger District is closest to Denver. Permits in this district apply to specific cutting areas (Buffalo Creek, Sugar Creek, and Camp Fickes) within limited date ranges and may sell out.

The Pikes Peak Ranger District is closest to Colorado Springs with specific cutting areas near Woodland Park.

The South Park Ranger District is closest to the town of Fairplay. Most of the district is open for cutting and there is not a quota, so permits will not sell out.

The Salida Ranger District is closest to the towns of Salida and Buena Vista. Most of the district is open for cutting. There is not a quota, so permits will not sell out, but they will not go on sale until November 9th.

The Leadville Ranger District is closest to the town if Leadville. Most of the district is open for cutting. There is not a quota, so permits will not sell out, but they will not go on sale until November 9th.

The San Carlos Ranger District is closest to the towns of Canon City, Westcliffe, and La Veta. Most of the district is open for cutting. There is not a quota, so permits will not sell out, but they will not go on sale until November 9th.

Cutting a Christmas tree in a national forest is a tradition for many residents of the Rocky Mountain Region. In doing so, you take an active part in managing your national forests as you celebrate your own family's tradition. Happy Holidays!

GENERAL PERMIT REQUIREMENTS:

REMEMBER THAT LOCAL EXCEPTIONS MAY APPLY TO THE INFORMATION BELOW!
Core Cutting Dates: December 5-13, 2009
Permits: $10 each. One tree per permit. Limit 5 permits per person. All sales are final.
Area Entry Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. - For your safety, no entry is allowed before or after these hours.

Every Kid Outdoors Passes Grant Students a Free Christmas Tree Permit

All fourth graders, or age equivalent, are eligible to receive an Every Kid Outdoors pass, which is good at 2,000-plus federally managed lands and water sites across the country between Sept. 1, 2021 and Aug. 30, 2022.

Every Kid Outdoors pass/voucher holders are also eligible for a free holiday tree permit through their local national forest. To obtain a free holiday tree permit, visit Recreation.gov to apply using the Every Kid Outdoors pass/voucher by checking the box indicating you have a pass and entering the pass or voucher number (a $2.50 reservation fee will be applied).

How to get a Christmas tree cutting permit at Golden Gate State Park
Tree selections include Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Lodge Pole Pine and Rocky Mountain Juniper.

GOLDEN, Colo. — Golden Gate Canyon State Park is offering up a limited number of permits for those eager to cut down their own Christmas tree this holiday season.

In a news release distributed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), the park announced a lottery system where 250 permits will be issued for cutting down a Christmas tree in select areas of the park.

From Monday, Nov. 1 through Monday, Nov. 15, those interested in applying for a permit can do so at this link. Applications will not be accepted over the phone, in person or at the Golden Gate Canyon State Park visitor center.

CPW Golden Gate State Park Christmas Tree Cutting Permits 2021

Golden Gate Canyon State Park is offering 250 Christmas tree cutting permits through an application draw event. The permits are $35, one permit per household. The draw will be open to applications from November 1st - November 15th. Successful applicants will be notified by email the week of November 16th. Permit holders can visit the park on December 4th between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to choose and cut their tree. To apply go to - www.cpwshop.com/licensing.page
