Suspect Arrested After One Found Dead

Jefferson County, CO. – On November 28, 2021, just before 1:00 a.m., deputies responded to the 11000 block of Cochise Circle on reports of a gunshot wound. When deputies arrived they found one adult male with a gunshot wound deceased inside a camper. The suspect, Sarah Kalan (01/16/1985), fled the scene in a truck, but was quickly located by deputies and taken into custody. Kalan was booked into the Jefferson County Detentions Facility on charges of first degree murder, menacing, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

Kalan has a criminal record going back to 2003.

In Colorado Springs in 2006, she was charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault, menacing and firing a gun while drunk. She was convicted of two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to six years in the Department of Corrections.

In 2014, she was convicted of felony menacing in Longmont and sentenced to two years probation. That was revoked three times, and she was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
