There's a lot going on with our fire districts that impacts you. Meetings aren't sexy, but they are important! Please attend if you are able (in-person or via Zoom) to find out what ECFPD did last month for calls, financials, the latest with the consolidation, the status of Home Assessments and Wildfire Risk Reduction (the Fuels Crew has been hired, they'll start this spring and the Chipping Program will return!), and more. The Community Wildfire Protection Plan should be available later this month for you to look over and provide feedback before it is finalized and signed off on by the Colorado State Forest Service.

Wildfire is the greatest risk to our community - get engaged to find out what our fire districts are doing to mitigate that and how you can be part of the effort! I attended last night's Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District Board of Directors Meeting and Wildland Captain John Mandl said that our current weather and fuels conditions mirror the year 2000 (Hayman Fire) and 2012 (Lower North Fork Fire and Waldo Canyon Fire) so they aren't planning on doing as many homes for the Chipping Program because they have to build in the potential of responding to a district fire that would require all hands on deck and no time to do Chipping for a period of time. That news should concern and motivate us all to start hardening our homes and creating defensible space on our land.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
