Breaking: The Park County sheriff confirms deputies have found the suspect vehicle on a rural road in the mountains of Park Co. near Bailey.

There is a large police presence here and a shelter in place alert issued.

DENVER — A car associated with a 17-year-old student accused of shooting and wounding two staff members at East High School Wednesday morning has been found in Park County, the Park County Sheriff said.

Police said around 4:40 p.m. that there was police activity near Bailey related to the investigation.

The car was found on County Road 68, also known as Wellington Lake Road, outside of Bailey, the sheriff's office said. It's unclear whether anyone was in the car.

Park County issued an emergency alert for the town of Bailey and the surrounding area due to the investigation. Residents were asked to shelter in place and call 911 if they see anything unusual.

Body Found Near Vehicle Involved in East High School Shooting

Park County – Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw confirms that earlier today a vehicle in connection with the East High School shooting was located on County Road 68 in Bailey. There was a large multi-agency response including Jefferson County Sheriff, Denver Police Department, FBI and ATF. Jefferson County SWAT approached the abandoned vehicle and after a search in the area, found a deceased person nearby.

The Park County Coroner David Kintz, Jr., is conducting his investigation and will issue an update on the person's identity and manner of death as available.

Park County Coroner Confirms Identity and Cause of Death of Deceased Person Found in Bailey
coroner update


Park County – Park County Coroner, David A. Kintz, Jr., can confirm the identification of the decedent found last night on Park County Road 68 as Austin Lyle, born on August 31, 2005. Mr. Lyle's next of kin were notified of the positive identification. The preliminary autopsy findings confirm that Mr. Lyle’s death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Park County Coroner’s Office will be continuing to conduct a death investigation and will have no further details until a final report is completed. A full report from the coroner will be issued in 8 – 10 weeks, per usual county procedures.
