Director Newby claims the move to unify Fire Protection Districts is somehow undemocratic and violates the constitution – wrong. Based on voter feedback, the three Fire Chiefs have modified their plans and are pursuing unification LEGALLY. Lest he forget, the election was a toss up; it was a vote on a specific set of circumstances and not a vote never to make changes to EC FPD. The Chiefs are delivering better service at a lower mill levy with Unification – the best of both worlds.
So, Director Newby now threatens in the local newspaper a lawsuit to BLOCK my right to better fire/EMS service. If you extrapolate, he’s holding 49.2% of the Conifer electorate hostage. He's threatening to spend our taxpayer dollars on a frivolous lawsuit and potentially blocking our access to better fire/EMS service. That’s WRONG in so many ways.
He claims that his community group, CoSECC, has an analysis that shows unification provides worse service. That doesn’t jive with what three fire chiefs and 68 career/volunteer fire/EMS professionals with 727 years of experience say. Mr. Newby has zero years of experience. I’m listening to the professionals.
