Sushi Win GoFundMe to Reopen

From Ryan of Sushi Win:
Evergreen friends —
This is not an easy post for me to write.

If you know me, you know I’m not someone who asks for help. I’ve always believed that if you work hard enough, plan carefully enough, and take care of your people, things will work out.

But right now, I’m humbly asking for help.

On February 12th, our plaza experienced an active shooter situation two units down from Sushi Win. By a miracle, no one was hurt. I am beyond grateful for that every single day.

Since February 12th, we’ve been closed.

Insurance asked for supporting documents on the 18th, which I provided immediately. After waiting until today, February 27th, I was informed that they will only cover one to two days of lost wages.

Their reasoning is that once the yellow tape came down, I “could have reopened,” even though our windows were boarded up and our door was damaged during the law enforcement sweep.

Many of you remember that Evergreen High School experienced a shooting just five months ago. I made the decision to stay closed because the last thing I ever wanted was for families driving by to see boarded windows and police damage and relive trauma. I chose to protect the emotional well-being of this community over rushing to reopen.

Now I’m being told that decision means I don’t qualify for coverage.

They also denied covering the cost of our damaged door, stating it’s the landlord’s responsibility. But in my lease agreement, repairs within my unit fall on me.

In the meantime, I’ve exhausted my savings trying to keep the business afloat — rent, utilities, vendors, equipment, payroll obligations. The window replacement timeline is out of my control. I’ve been waiting, trusting that insurance would step in for the loss of income during closure.

Learning today that they will only cover a day or two has honestly taken the wind out of me.

I’ve been in hospitality my entire adult life. I’m used to being the one giving — donating meals, supporting local causes, stepping up when someone needs help.

Asking for help like this feels foreign to me.
But I can’t reopen without getting through this gap.

My fiancée created a GoFundMe to help bridge the cost of repairs and lost wages so we can get back on our feet and reopen our doors to serve Evergreen again.

If you are able to contribute, we are deeply grateful.
If you can’t, sharing this post means just as much.
If you’ve already reached out with kind words — please know it’s meant more than you realize.
I’m not asking for anything beyond a chance to stand back up.
We love this community. We want to reopen. We want to provide. We just need a little help getting there.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for caring.
And thank you for always showing up for small businesses like mine.

Phase One Begins – This Friday, March 6th.
Because of you, we’re moving forward.

We’ve reached 82% of our goal, and that support has given us the ability to begin Phase One of reopening while repairs continue.

Starting this Friday, March 6th, Sushi Win Jr. will be offering limited takeout service.

This wasn’t a decision made lightly. The past few weeks have tested us in ways I never expected. But what I’ve seen through all of it is something stronger than any setback — community.

Your generosity, encouragement, and belief in us have made it possible to start generating revenue again while we continue working toward a full reopening done right.

We’re not all the way there yet. Repairs are still underway, and we’re still at 82% of our goal. But this is a major step forward.

Phase One is about momentum.
Phase Two is about restoration.
And 100% is about coming back stronger than ever.
If you’ve donated or shared — you helped make this possible.
If you’ve been meaning to support, we’re 18% away from crossing the finish line.
Let’s keep pushing forward together.
See you Friday.
