Larimer County wildfire forces evacuations...

We need some snow....

The Bighorn Fire was called in on October 10, 2010 at approximately 4:37 a.m. The fire is located south of County Road 38E and east of Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins. An emergency phone notification was issued by Fort Collins Police Services to residents on Bighorn Crossing to evacuate.

Poudre Fire Authority, Larimer County Emergency Services, Larimer County Sheriff Deputies and Staff, Loveland Fire and Rescue and 2 to 3 Hot Shot crews from the Forest Service are currently on scene.

At 8:50 a.m. Larimer County Emergency Services determined the fire to be contained and evacuees are being allowed to return to their homes. Residents are advised to limit activity on roadways in this area to allow fire operations to continue for the next 4 to 5 hours.
The fire is estimated to be about 8-9 acres in size. Cause and origin have not yet been determined.
