PROJECT BACKGROUND
In 2009, numerous horses and a donkey were permanently taken from their Arvada owner due to cruelty and neglect. In partnership, Foothills Animal Shelter and Jefferson County Animal Control cared for and placed these animals into loving, forever homes. Unfortunately, two of the horses were so seriously neglected they did not survive. The others, including the donkey, have all been adopted. Over the course of fifteen plus months, Foothills Animal Shelter paid more than $40,000 for the medical needs and daily expense and care of the horses.
One of the portraits up for auction:
Gypsy
Gypsy is as wild as the wind, and she is one of the prettiest mustangs ever seen. She was born to be free, and she will live out her life (of luxury) on acreage and with other horses in Southern Colorado.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
A native of Colorado, Adrianne lives in Texas with her family and pets. This year, she is a sophomore at The Woodlands High School, and she participates in the art and FFA clubs. She also rides English hunter/jumper year round. Adrianne wanted to help these animals, and decided to create these portraits to help raise funds for the new shelter. This support will help to ensure that Foothills Animal Shelter can continue to care for all animals in need, just like these horses and donkey.
ABOUT THE FRAMING
All portraits have been custom framed and matted. They are framed with all conservation materials and the glass is TruVu Conservation glass with 99% UV protection. The frames are made from Larson-Juhl mouldings. The framing was generously donated by Grizzly Creek Framing in Golden, Colorado.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Adrianne saw the photos of the horses online and contacted the professional photographer who donated her services to the project. Pam Nickoles of Nickoles Photography gave Adrianne permission to do charcoal drawings from her photographs.
