Thirty-two years ago today was the last time I touched, talked to, and saw my little sister alive. She was murdered sometime while we all slept during the night by a young man our family had offered room and board to.
Shelley was 8, she would have turned 9 on Christmas Day. There is not a day that goes by that I don't miss her...some more than others...and this time of the year is especially difficult for me.
The last Sunday Shelley was alive, as we were driving to church, Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" came on the radio. Shelley shushed all of us in the car and turned up the radio so we could hear this song. So, whenever I hear the song I think of her in that moment, but I also believe the song has a good lesson to learn...life is a gamble and it should be lived to its fullest.
It's not something you ever get "over" but I hope the memories of her are brighter each year.

So very, very sorry. Thank you for sharing Shelley. Everyday counts, you obviously knew that at a young age since after 32 years, memories of your sweet sister are still vivid.
I have lit a candle in memory of your beloved sister.
Some things can't be understood, only endured.
May you feel our hearts reaching out to you today: you're not alone out there.
