We are still getting too many virus infections (ThinkPoint, fake alert, system infected, bad hard drive, etc…) They are all fake warnings, but real viruses. These viruses are more common on XP & Vista systems than on Windows 7. You will need to update your system to the latest service pack (3 for XP, 2 for Vista), make sure you have the latest version of Internet Explorer browser (8 or Beta 9). And go the www.adobe.com website, click on download & click on Flash update. This will stop infected websites from loading junk on your system. If you are already infected you may try downloading software from another machine (from www.download.com) & transfer data via a flash/usb drive, install “Malwarebytes” in “safe mode” (press F8 when the system starts BEFORE the Windows logo). Also disable the “restore” function before you reboot or the virus will come back! Use also free software like Spybot Search & Destroy (spyware removal), AVAST antivirus, free for 4 months, or AVG 2011 free edition, free for 1 year (unfortunately not as friendly as their older versions) also available at www.download.com.
