Does anyone know much about Rocky Mountain Health?
I've been using Humana for individual insurance, but I see Rocky Mountain's rates are much lower. The coverage looks pretty good to me, unless I'm missing something.
It seems like they are somehow tied to the state of CO. Part of the premium goes to the state for their high risk insurance pool. But still, the rates look pretty reasonable.
Anyone know of any issues with Rocky Mountain Health?
I had RMHP for years and was very happy with their coverage and their customer service. There are a couple reasons I switched to Anthem BC/BS.....RMHP does not cover you out of state except in an emergency. Since we spend our winters in AZ that became a problem if we needed to see a doctor for something that wasn't life-threatening but was urgent. Also RMHP decided to change their individual plans, but the law didn't allow them to just change existing customers from one plan to another....so they raised the premiums over 30% the first year, then 50% the following year, in order to switch to a lower cost plan I would have needed to re-qualify. I thought that was a pretty sneaky thing to do to individual plan members, we could be grandfathered to our existing plan, but at an enormous premium.

Thanks for the input!
Yes, you reminded me that I did see that disadvantage of RMHP in that you can't go out of state except for an emergency. In general I'd say that probably isn't a problem, but I could see it being an issue if you have some rare condition and need to go out of state for a specialist. It's something to think about.
I also noticed something strange in their prescription drug coverage. Oral anti-cancer drugs are not covered. I don't know if that's an issue or not. I think most chemo would be by injection, but I'd think they'd use oral drugs as well. Don't know.
And agree how it's bad when you get a large price increase, but can't switch to a cheaper plan because you'd have to go through underwriting again and you might get rejected due to some condition you had while insured with the expensive plan. That sucks, and I'm glad that's going away.
