Also recommended is to go through your house and videotape every room, being sure to talk about every item in frame, pull out drawers and video the contents too - where/when you purchased it, how much it cost, etc - document every item you have in case of a total loss. Have receipts of big items if possible and either scan and store them in a file on your computer, or save them to a backup drive that you can take with you (or store in a safe deposit box).

Take extra clothes - you don't know how many days you will be evacuated and you don't want to have to purchase items you don't really need if you have plenty at home you can bring with you. Don't forget pet food for pets!
