An excellent example of poor and arrogant public relations on the part of the fire department, IMO.
Perhaps a less arrogant explanation of why it was/is not dangerous for the "pros" would better serve both the public (the ones who pay for it) and the fire department?

Since I'm not a member of the fire department, it's only a reflection of my personal poor and arrogant public relations, but thanks. jf1acai, you seem to have background in wildland fire, I assume you're somewhat versed in the requirements necessary to perform a prescribed fire. These guys aren't simply running through the woods lighting stuff on fire. They have rules that they need to follow, and liabilities to consider if they make a mistake. For the person with no fire background to second guess that is just ignorant.
I didn't see any second guessing, I saw a perfectly appropriate comment by a concerned citizen.
And I can recall quite a few prescribed burns, performed by qualified fire fighters, which have gotten out of control. I see nothing wrong with concerned citizens commenting about the advisability of a prescribed burn. I think an informed and reasonable response would go a long way toward better relations between the fire fighters and the public.

with this ferocious wind??? sounds dangerous to me.
That's why they're the pros, and you're not.....
Do ever wonder why they changed the name of "controlled burn" to "prescribed burn"?
Ask the folks in Los Alamos. The Cerro Grande Fire was a prescribed fire that escaped control and burned 237 homes in Los Alamos, New Mexico, in May 2000. Seems it was too windy. And it was started by the PROS.
