Freedom of speech in Europe

Geert Wilders and Lars Hedegaard were charged with thought crimes by denouncing Islam in the Netherlands.
These trials were and are extremely important to free speech in Europe and eventually the United States.

Crimes should be about what you do not what you think, hate crime laws and anti- Islamic laws are of the same ilk.

Freedom of political speech is absolutely fundamental to a democratic/free society. You cannot have political freedom without it.
Also freedom of religion is absolutely fundamental. Separation of church and state. Without it you cannot have a democratic/free society.
Religious states are not democratic nor are they a free society. That includes ALL religious states (even those that we support).

These men were not taken into the courts because of anti-islamic laws, but rather because of their points of view, thoughts, and speech.
