Sportsmen’s groups are expressing great skepticism about Gov. John Hickenlooper’s plan to merge the Colorado Division of Wildlife and Colorado State Parks, a proposal announced early this month as a cost-saving measure.

thanks for the link cg. too many unaswered questions as to how this will work out.

why not just put every agency under dow so that they have enterprise status and avoid tabor requirements.

Hmmmm do suppose there would be any objection to hunting in state parks?

Already happened, some state parks will be closed as a state park.
Hunting has been allowed in most stae parks already.
DOW has always been totally funded by outdoors fees, state parks by permits and parking and some lottery funds. Now it's going to be a frigen mess.

From the article, a few of the State Parks slated for closure would become State Wildlife Areas and would indeed be allowed to be funded by DOW $$$$. I am not too excited about this plan. The devil is in the details.

I am against this proposal too but I am willing to hear the details before I start calling my reps.

The merger is already happening. I have a good friend very high up in State Parks. He had told me about this last month.
The merger is causing alot of headaches for them within Parks. There may even be some position eliminations.
Both agencies have duplicate depts so obviously some cost cutting measures involved here.
There may be a location move for both as well.
Can't the State Gov concentrate on other areas that are more important like Education, Jobs, Transportation, ???

If they move Parks to DOW and give it enterprise status, Hick could then move their budget money to education. Denver Post said today all the people in the 2 bureaus are being forced to re-apply for their jobs. I would think this merger is going to lose money in the beginning as they shut down some operations, but I would also expect park and hunting fees to rise.

Why then would enterprise status be a good thing, If Hicky can take monies budgeted to them away ?
Regardless of where it would go? i am all for better funded education if all else has been done to improve at the home and school levels. But to rob from Peter to pay Paul, for exam., is not the way to do it.
