URGENT: HELP US SAVE OLIVIA

Hi Everyone,

We are asking for your help for Olivia (see picture below), a 15 yr old kitty who came to IMHS last week along with her sister Gracie, from a vet clinic where they were abandoned. These sisters are sweet, happy and affectionate.

During her exam at IMHS, Olivia was found to have a thyroid tumor, a condition fairly common in older cats. We have run bloodwork on her, and she's an excellent candidate for radioactive iodine treatment, which is an effective cure for her condition. However, the treatment needed to save her is expensive-- about $1100.

Please, if you can help us to provide Olivia with the treatment to cure her tumor, we'd appreciate it so much. Even if you can only give a few bucks, your gift helps Olivia.

Donations may be dropped off in person at the shelter 7 days/week (67318 Hwy 285, in the back of the log building), or mail to: IMHS PO Box 1250, Conifer CO 80433

With your help, we can treat Olivia and find a forever home where she and Gracie can enjoy their golden years!

Deepest thanks,
Marta Anderson
Shelter Director

Info from the web about radioactive iodine treatment:
Radioactive iodine therapy is considered the optimum treatment for feline hyperthyroidism. It involves a single nonstressful procedure that is without associated morbidity or mortality. Significant side effects have not been observed. Unlike surgery, anesthesia is not necessary. A single dose of radioactive iodine will result in a return to persistent euthyroidism (normal thyroid function) in a majority (>95%) of cats with hyperthyroidism. Since the cats's thyroid function returns to normal following therapy, no ongoing thyroid medications are needed following this form of treatment.

Thanks SO much to all of you who have contributed to help Olivia--having our big-hearted community rally around an effort like this for a sweet old cat who we, too, think could have a few more happy golden years, means the world to us!

More support is needed...we still have $800 to raise, so please spread the word!

In gratitude,

Thank you SO much to everyone who has pitched in for Olivia! We have raised $655 and need just $445 to go...we are in the process now of "shopping" for which specialist to handle her treatment.

We look forward to keeping everyone posted on Olivia's treatment and care...and hope to have an adoptive home come forward who will take her and Gracie together, forever!

GREAT news...after much shopping around, we have found a clinic in Castle Rock, the Cat Specialist on Atchison Way, who is offering the service to us at a deeply discounted fee of $750! This rate is about $500 lower than other estimates we've received. We have another pre-treatment diagnostic test we must have done first, however, this is a terrific discounted rate and we are so, so pleased. Her therapy is scheduled for 2/7 and with just a few more donations we can cover Olivia's treatment costs and hopefully her pre-therapy testing as well.

WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, and we'll look forward to keeping you posted on Olivia's progress!
