Ladies and Gentlemen, MAGGIE has left the building!

Dreams really DO come true...we are so pleased to announce that dear Maggie, who'd become a long-timer at IMHS, has finally found her forever home!

Maggie came to us from Denver Animal Care and Control, where she was kept in a holding ward, and not being considered for adoption (i.e. fearful, and a candidate for euthanasia) unless a partnering agency could accept her for placement. After seeing poor Maggie's face on the at-risk animals transfer list for a few weeks, IMHS was able to come to her rescue.

Maggie really came out of her shell at IMHS! For a senior dog, she was spunky, energetic, and quickly became a favorite with the staff and volunteers. A non-descript breed (perhaps Viszla/Doberman) with a grey muzzle, Maggie was passed up for adoption for weeks on end. Despite our best marketing efforts, weeks turned into months.

A smart and lively senior dog, Maggie had very little tolerance for boredom and inactivity. She became frustrated in the afternoons and chewed her blanket, bored of her toys. She looked depressed at night...we simply couldn't have this! Our Volunteer Dog-Walkers and our Dog Enrichment Team kicked into full gear and took Maggie out on special long walks and even took her out on hiking trails, and bike rides, to drain her energy and relieve kennel stress.

After a failed adoption try-out last month, we held our collective breaths when a wonderful couple came in and met Maggie last weekend, and returned Monday to take her on a 2-day adoption trial. Yesterday was pure magic when the family came in to report how much they love Maggie, and signed the papers to make the adoption official!

Maggie now shares her new forever home with a male "sibling" shih tzu and her new loving human companions. They say she loves to go for walks, cuddle in the evenings, and they cover her up with blankets when she goes to sleep at night....

We're overjoyed to see you off to your new home, Maggers!!

To our volunteers and staff who so lovingly cared for Maggie and helped to promote her adoption, THANK YOU for your compassion and dedication! These victories are the reward for all your hard work.

Special thanks to everyone who read our posts, asked about Maggie, and told others about her, and kept the buzz alive on her need for a forever home until her special day arrived!
