Happy New Year from your friends at IMHS!

New Year's Day is one of our favorite holidays at IMHS because it represents new beginnings, a full year of hope and possiblities ahead of us, and opportunities to help animals in need, with your help.

In spending a little quiet time with the shelter animals on this holiday, they inspired me to share a few ways that you--all of us!-- can help the animals this year....

Collect CANS for the critters. Start today by setting a little bag or trash receptacle aside, and toss your empty beer and soda cans in there. When you collect a bagful bring them to IMHS and we'll cash them in to help the shelter animals! Ask your friends at school and your coworkers to do the same. Set up a "cans for critters" bin in your breakroom at work, or at your next party. Don't worry about whether or not you have a giant, impressive load to bring in...it's ok to bring in a few at a time, just get them to us! Simply bring them inside the shelter or toss the bagged cans at our doorstep if you swing by afterhours. This is SO easy, everyone can help animals by doing this!

SHOP the IMHS Second Chance Thrift Shop. Did you know that the shop's sales support a whopping 1/5th of the shelter's operational budget? The IMHS Second Chance Thrfit Shop is located in the log building in Pine Junction, just upstairs from the shelter. The shop is open every day except Monday, and carries a TERRIFIC selection of merchandise including men's, women's and children's fashionwear; books, CDs and DVDs; sporting goods and toys; and household items such as kitchen and dishware, utensils, and home decor. Our highly acclaimed thrift shop is staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers, so your shopping dollars go towards helping the animals. Likewise, the Second Chance Thrift Shop gladly accepts donations of new and gently used items!

Give us an hour (or two!). Can't commit to a regular schedule, but have an hour or so to spend with the animals about once a week? IMHS is always recruiting more volunteers to join our Animal Enrichment team, and flexible scheduling for this position is fine! Help is most needed between 11am - 2.30pm weekdays, and on holidays, so if you are available to spend a little one-on-one time with the animals or take a high-energy shelter dog out for a hike, we'd love to get you started as an Enrichment Volunteer! Apply on-line at IMHS.org or swing by in person any day for a volunteer application and for a full list of volunteer opportunites available.

Join our Membership family! Please, stand with us in 2013 by becoming an IMHS member. Members are vital to helping us further our mission to save animals, and membership fees are reasonable (just $35 per year for an individual membership!). As a benefit, you'll enjoy deep discounts from our Second Chance Thrift Shop and at many area businesses, just by presenting your IMHS membership card. Members receive our quarterly newsletters and enjoy voting privileges at IMHS annual membership meetings, as well as qualifying for discounts on adoptions and retail items in the shelter. Join on-line at IMHS.org OR call or visit the shelter any day to join (303-838-2668, credit card payments are accepted over the phone).

Donate your car to help animals. If a new set of wheels is on your 2013 horizon, donate your old car to IMHS by going to carshelpingcharities.org and choosing Intermountain Humane Society as your charity of choice. This process is super-easy, your gift is fully tax-deductible, and they'll even pick up your old car for you!

In 2012, thanks to the support from our kind community, we provided care and services to a record-breaking 714 animals at IMHS. We envision that 2013 will be another banner year for animals at IMHS, if you'll stand with us in a pledge of support.

On behalf of the animals, our warmest thanks to everyone who reads these posts, donates items from our wishlist, shares information about IMHS adoptable animals, "likes" us on Facebook or otherwise offers support for our mission. We are grateful for your compassion, and wish you all the best in this New Year!
